• God is sovereign over all things:  ”… He does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”” (Dan 4:35)
  • His secret will is unknown to us:  The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:29)
  • His revealed will is known to us in the Scriptures:  Deut 29:29 and “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim 3:16-17)
  • Our desires and will must be in submission to both his secret and revealed will.  “And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”” (Mark 14:36)
  • We are free to have, seek after, pray about and express our own desires to our Heavenly Father, even in the matter of life partners “And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”” (Mark 14:36).  “If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry—it is no sin.” and “…if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.” (1 Cor 7:36, 39)
